the Lake Area each October at the Lake Charles Civic Center.  Approximately ten thousand visitors attend each day of the three day event!  The Festival celebrates the culture of the seven Celtic Nations:  Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, the Isle of Man, Galicia, Brittany, and Ireland.  Many southwest Louisiana natives have traced their ancestry to the Celts;  many Louisiana Cajuns as well whose French ancestors were from Brittany!

It is said that "Real Men Wear Kilts!"  The Celtic Festival features Highland Games on the grounds of the Civic Center.  Scottish men have tested their strengths against one another at these Highland gatherings for centuries.  King Malcolm Ceanmore, who began his reign in 1057, is credited for initiating some of the difficult forms of today's Scottish Highland Games.

The ancient Currach sails on Lake Charles, located behind the Civic Center. during the Celtic Festival.  Irish Champion Currach teams from Boston, Albany, Annapolis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Detroit, New London, Connecticut come to join this newly formed Lake Charles team to compete!  The word Currach describes a style of boat still used today by fishermen on the west coast of Ireland.

Visitors enjoy a variety of activities such as Scottish Dancers,, musicians from Scotland and Ireland, "Riders of the Sea" a tragic play by J.M Synge, Celtic Gumbo and other great foods, Irish dancing for children, Scottish Bagpipe competition, Tartan Spinning and Weaving, Storytelling, and much more!!

Personal Ponies LA./TX. participates in this glorious event with great enthusiasm and privilege for the opportunity to share our UK Shetland Stallions with the general public!

Our UK Shetlands are warmly received, and viewed in awe, by all visitors!  Share in the magic of the day as you view photos of these Shetland Stallions interacting with multiples of visitors and Celtic Festival participants who celebrate their attendance and appreciate the amazing history of the UK Shetland Pony!
